Sprinkler Company Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
What is SEO? The Key to Winning the Internet.
Have you given up on SEO (search engine optimization)? You’re not alone.
Navigating the complicated field of ranking pages is difficult enough when you’re in the field. For amateurs, it becomes little more than a guessing game and a range of failed experiments.
The reason? Search engines don’t like it when you cheat the system. They don’t want you to understand their ranking factors because their business is to present the best results. In the early days of search engines, the “best results” were those with the most relevant keywords.
Keyword stuffing doesn’t necessarily mean that a site has excellent content. You could, for example, create an article on the spiritual life of lawn sprinklers. In the old days, it could have ranked well despite being completely devoid of useful information.
So, search engines got more intelligent. They updated their algorithms. They started to incorporate artificial intelligence. Nowadays, search engines go beyond basic keywords. They now look at how those keywords relate to the context of the site.
Choosing to engage in irrelevant keyword stuffing today could result in your site getting penalized.
Why is SEO so Difficult?
Ranking a page is a long-term project. Changes you make today may only show results in two to three months. As a result, it can be hard to nail down the tweaks that make a real difference.
Making things more complicated is that Google alone uses more than 200 ranking factors. They keep those ranking factors a closely guarded secret. Aside from telling us to create stellar content, they give us very few clues about what works.
Please note that we said SEO is difficult, not impossible. For those of us working in the industry, it becomes simple to see patterns. We know, for example, that page speed and bounce rates impact the site’s ranking.
And, while no one knows for sure what the smaller nuances are, we can intuit the significant ranking factors.
Another issue at play here is that you’re competing with millions of other sites. As a sprinkler system and irrigation specialist, you’ve got both direct and indirect competition to consider. Your direct competitors are easy to monitor.
The indirect ones, not so much. The company manufacturing those systems might, for example, create content about backflow testing that ranks better than yours. A site that’s promoting greener ways to approach irrigation is also competition.
Do I Really Need a Professional Team?
Ten or 20 years ago, this wouldn’t have been an issue. You could simply look up the information online, and you were OK. Times have changed. There’s still plenty of advice online, but a lot of it is conflicting.
Without a pro team at your side, it could take months or even years of frustrating trial and error to get the results you want to see. Can your business afford to wait that long? Do you have the time to do all those tweaks?
